BELIZE
The country of Belize is located on the east coast of Central America. It is bordered by Mexico in the North, Guatemala in the West and South, and the Caribbean Sea to the East.
The population of Belize is approximately 292 000, nine thousand of which reside in Belmopan, the country's Capital. 30%, however, live in Belize City--the commercial captial and largest city. Belize has a sub-tropical climate....which means it gets very hot! There are two seasons--the wet season and the dry season. However, it still manages to rain over 200 days out of the year in the Toledo District, where Punta Gorda is located.
Belize is known for its natural attractions, which include the Maya Mountains in the South, and the second largest barrier reef in the world. There are many tiny islets sprinkled along the coast called Cayes (pronounced keyes) which attract tourists.
The official language of Belize is English, though because it's surrounded by Latin America, Spanish is widely spoken. Belizeans speak an English version of Creole, which can be difficult to understand. Mek ah teach uno wah lee bit sometime. Ah nuh tak perfec yet but ah di work pan ih, chek.
