Dear Friends & Family; May 2009
Greetings! I pray this letter finds you and your family well. Summer is about to begin and exciting things are taking place! It has been a while since I have spoken with some of you, and I just wanted to let you know some of the great things that are happening in my life.
Six years ago Forward Baptist Church sent Pastor Brad Somers down to Belize, Central America with a team of 12 youth for a two month missions trip. I was a part of that team and my experience in Belize that summer was life-altering. I had never experienced a greater passion for the ministry I was involved in, or felt like I was fulfilling a greater purpose in my Christian life. I have kept a burning passion for Belize in my heart since then, and now six years later, and after returning to that special country several times, I am so excited to share with you the next step I believe God is leading me!
I have spent the last two summers down in Belize, as well as this past Christmas and New Years, doing the same ministry that I was involved in the first time. I volunteer my time at Machaca Outreach Center which is a Bible camp run in the jungle by the Gotz's - the missionary family and camp directors. All summer I will join this family and a team of local Christian Belizeans and minister to the children, teens, and young adults of the surrounding villages. Not only will we run a typical summer camp for these kids, but I am involved with various outreach projects with the goal of pouring out love upon them and revealing God's most perfect love for them and His desire for a personal relationship with them.
This year God is leading me into a deeper involvement with the outreach centre and Belizean people - one that I have not yet experienced in all my work down there. In addition to heading back down to Belize for the coming summer, I am preparing to remain down there on the field for one full year. When Machaca is not putting on summer camps, the Gotz family is involved with leading and directing a Discipleship Internship Program throughout the year. As a part of this program, I will be helping prepare for the coming camps and be a part of outreach events and local missions trips to neighbouring villages. In addition to outreach, I will be living and working with a team of Christian Belizeans, and will be part of intense discipleship classes three times a week. There will be many work projects around the camp that I will be responsible for as well.
There are so many unique and challenging aspects of this internship program, and I can hardly contain my excitement for what I am about to experience! Not only will I be surrounded by a people and a culture that has captivated my heart, but I will be serving the Lord and growing ever deeper in my love and dependence on Him. This trip provides an opportunity to meet the physical and spiritual needs of a community that is desperately in need. More than anything, I would value your prayers for myself and the team I will be a part of, and those whose lives will be touched by God through us. I know that God answers prayers, and I'm asking you to pray for safety, good health, smooth travel, and financial support. And most importantly, the salvation of those I come in contact with. Just knowing that you will be praying will give me peace as I leave my family, friends, and sense of security to enter the excitement and challenges of a different culture and way of life!
Beyond your prayers, if you are led to join me by financially supporting this mission, I would be extremely grateful. I will have to be creative to raise the money, and I want to extend an invitation to you to participate. Please make any and all cheques out to MSC Canada and mail to the following address:
